VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GRAAA
Whether you have been part of the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association for years or just became a member today, we invite you to volunteer! This is a wonderful way to get to know your fellow amateur astronomy enthusiasts, socialize, and take advantage of the camaraderie and friendships that come with being part of the GRAAA community.
Your support is invaluable to our mission and helps us strengthen our operations for years to come. We appreciate any contributions and hope to see our organization grow stronger. No special skills are required to volunteer. All we look for is a positive attitude and eagerness to spend time with the group and surrounding community.

Get Started by Volunteering for Any of These Opportunities
Public Observing Nights
Help out by bringing a personal telescope, facilitating observation with Veen scopes, manage the parking lot or admissions table, and much more. This is a much needed opportunity for GRAAA volunteers. Sign up here: tinyurl.com/GRAAA-SignUp-2024

Group Visits
Help plan, organize, and facilitate group tours of the Veen Observatory, and help out with other public and private outreach.

Leadership & Committee Positions
Step up and take on a leadership role within the GRAAA. This may include Board or Officer positions, committee chairperson roles, and more. Or be a part of a team working on important tasks that help the group function smoothly.

Maintenance
Help keep our old building functioning by helping maintain the observatory telescopes, working on DIY projects, painting, remodeling and more. Assist with property maintenance like weed clearing, storm and trail cleanup, or other outdoor projects.
Club Meetings
Prepare spaces for monthly presentations at various GRAAA meeting venues. Help with the physical space, assist with A/V, or take on a bigger role in hosting and announcing guest speakers.

Board of Directors Meetings
Observe and participate in quarterly meetings about the internal workings of the group, with the potential opportunity to join the Board or become an Officer.

Veen Telescope Training and Equipment Tune-ups
Join us to become a telescope expert at the James C. Veen Observatory! Once you're trained you can use the observatory all on your own, and even help facilitate future trainings. Help at telescope clinics, and assist with donated gear by fixing technical issues and arrange for give-away or sale.

Special Holiday Events
Help plan, organize, and promote the highly anticipated annual winter holiday party and summer Star-Be-Que.
