GRAAA Reflections: January 2025

Emily Hromi

Each month this year, we will share with you a significant image from the GRAAA archives as the group commemorates 70 years of existence in 2025. The images are selected to reveal not only significant history, but also some lighter moments.

The below image is certainly a fitting one to start the series.

This 1957 photo and article from the Grand Rapids Press announces GRAAA support for a new planetarium to be added to the Public Museum's historic building at Jefferson and State Street. GRAAA co-founder and first president James C. Veen (right) had by then become Secretary, handing over the president's position to charter member Donald Thompson (left). In the middle is Richard Bennet, another charter and board member. Sadly Veen died in an auto accident about a year after this photo was taken.
